What does Nacelle Recommend do?

Nacelle Recommend provides widgets like Product Carousel and Product Modal that can be enabled in your Storefront Shopify theme.

At runtime the app serves recommendations based on your store's product catalog and the shopper's current cart context.

Where can the carousel be added?

On any page in your theme, plus thank you pages. Checkout placement is also supported, but only on stores with the Shopify Plus plan — see “Why can't I add Nacelle Recommend to my checkout?” below.

Why can't I add Nacelle Recommend to my checkout?

Nacelle Recommend can't be placed inside the checkout because of a Shopify platform restriction, not a limitation of the app. Shopify only allows apps to render inside the checkout flow (the information, shipping, and payment steps) through its Checkout UI Extensions framework, and that framework is available exclusively to stores on the Shopify Plus plan. This is a constraint Shopify sets at the platform level for all apps, not something Nacelle controls or can override.

How do I install and configure it?

Install Nacelle Recommend from the Shopify App Store, grant the permissions Shopify requests, and configure the widget settings (strategy, number of products to display, and placement in your theme).

How are recommendations chosen?

Each widget has a configurable Strategy:

  • Default — basket analysis using order history (products commonly purchased together)
  • Behavior Analysis — basket analysis plus customer browsing events
  • New Products — newest products first, in descending chronological order by creation date

You can also configure the maximum number of products each widget displays (up to a per-widget limit shown in the configuration panel).

Can I customize how it looks or what it says?

Yes. Text shown in the widgets and other display options are configurable in the app settings, and the carousel's visual styling adapts to your theme.

The carousel isn't showing up on my store. What do I check?
  1. Confirm the app is installed and shows as "Active" in your Shopify admin under Apps.
  2. Check that the carousel is enabled in the app's settings for the page where you expect it to appear (cart, checkout, or both). Checkout placement is available on Shopify Plus only.
  3. Clear your storefront cache and view the page in a private / incognito window to rule out cached theme assets.
  4. If it's still not visible, email support@nacelle.com with your shop URL and we'll investigate.
How is Nacelle Recommend different from Nacelle Sales?

Both apps help shoppers find the right products in your store, but they're built for different needs.

  • Nacelle Recommend shows product recommendations on your product pages, cart, checkout (Shopify Plus only), and thank-you pages, plus add-to-cart upsells. Shoppers can add items to their cart directly from the recommendations — no chat required. It's a simpler, more lightweight option that adds product discovery without the conversational layer.
  • Nacelle Sales is a conversational chat widget powered by an AI assistant. Shoppers can ask detailed questions — “Do you have anything like this in black?”, “Is this compatible with my model?”, “What's your return policy?” — and get answers, recommendations, and the ability to add items to their cart through the chat. It's great for stores with large product catalogs or technically complex products, where shoppers often have questions before buying.

If you want product recommendations without a chat layer, Recommend is the lighter-weight option. If your shoppers tend to research, compare, and ask questions before purchasing, Sales is a great fit.

How do I uninstall the app?

From your Shopify admin, go to Apps, find Nacelle Recommend, and choose Uninstall. Shopify will revoke the app's access and notify us; we delete your shop's data as described in our privacy policy.
